Have you ever wondered what’s lurking in your laundry detergent?  Ever wonder why some perfumes and fragrances can leave you feeling sick?  Before I switched to a more natural lifestyle, I know that I never questioned ingredients that were in my food, let alone my laundry detergent.  I just trusted that companies would have my and my family’s best interests in mind.  Sadly, that is not always the case.  When you actually stop and look at the toxic chemicals that you are putting into your clothes, it can be frightening.  Looking at the list of ingredients, you may not even recognize one!

So what toxins are in mainstream detergent?

Among many ingredients in mainstream laundry detergents, you will find dozens of toxic ingredients, even some regulated as hazardous under federal laws, that are known as carcinogens and air pollutants.  Some toxic chemicals include acetone, which is an active ingredient in paint thinner; limonene, used to give off a citrus scent; acetaldehyde,  chloromethane, and 1,40 dioxane.  Specifically, you really have to be aware when one ingredient on a product is “fragrance” because this could be anything and you never know for sure.  So why are there so many chemicals?!  Do we really need all of these chemicals just to clean a shirt?  The answer is no.

What should I use instead?

I’m glad you asked!  I want to share this gorgeous, non-toxic, sustainable, and organic laundry detergent that I have been loving for the past month from The Simply Co.  Just like me and you, The Simply Co. founder Lauren Singer did not understand why there had to be so many chemicals in everything!  Not only that, but she commits herself to a zero waste lifestyle.  Therefore, when she created The Simply Co. laundry detergent, it not only had to be free of nasty chemicals, but it had to be eco-friendly as well.

“With every single decision we make we will consider the health of our homes, our bodies, and the environment.”

THE SIMPLY CO.

Here are some things I love about The Simply Co:

  • It all started with the belief that consumers should know what “they are using in their homes and on their bodies”. She did not find a product out there to meet her high expectations, so she created it herself!
  • All ingredients are ALWAYS listed on the packaging.
  • The detergent is made of a 100% USDA Organic vegetable base certified by ECOCERT, RSPO Certified Sustainable Palm Oil, Soil Association Organic, and Fair Trade.
  • All products are cruelty-free.
  • Products come in unscented and lavender (scented with organic lavender essential oil)
  • Can be used for your filthiest to most delicate clothing.
  • All packaging is recycled and recyclable.
  • Detergent comes in a gorgeous glass jar, out with the plastic!
  • NO SLS, 1,4-dioxane, EDTA, petrochemicals, chlorine, phosphates, DEA, formaldehyde, optical brighteners, synthetic preservatives.

Now on to the product, Natural and Organic laundry detergent!

Laundry Powder Detergent ($20): The first thing that I love about this detergent is the smell.  Not that fake “clean” smell, but just clean.  Just fresh. The products are not only safe enough to clean your family’s clothing, but it is just as effective as its toxic counterparts without the nasty effects. Other detergents have irritated by sensitive skin, but not this one!  My clothes are left soft, clean, and I can sleep easy.  Each jar is enough for 60 loads and in my experience, one tablespoon per load was perfect!  If you have a larger load or a heavily soiled load, you can up that amount to 2 tablespoons. Make sure you follow your machine instructions for using a powder wash, input the powder, and run!  This detergent can also be used for hand washing.

So don’t waste another minute cleaning your family’s clothes with nasty chemicals, give The Simply Co. a try and you won’t be disappointed.
